With over a million downloads in less than 24 hours, Peter Jackson’s Sci-Fi thriller District 9 is well on it’s way to becoming the most pirated movie of 2009. The huge download spike is caused by a DVD quality version of the movie that leaked onto various BitTorrent sites yesterday.

In the present day and age, no blockbuster movie can escape the fate of being pirated. However, the popularity of the various rips and titles can differ drastically, and a recent leak of a high quality version of Sci-Fi thriller District 9 might become a record breaker.

Two weeks ago a Telesync version of District 9 already found its way onto the Internet, but the rate at which the freshly released R5 release is being downloaded easily beats all other titles released in 2009 to date.

At the time of writing the movie has been downloaded over a million times on BitTorrent alone, less than 24 hours after it first surfaced. There are a few dozen torrents out there already, and the most popular one has over 50,000 people downloading the movie simultaneously.

At the US box office District 9 has grossed a mediocre $100 million since its official release three weeks ago, which puts it in the 20th spot of all movies released this year. In comparison, the latest Transformers movie grossed a similar amount in its opening weekend. Whether the pirated versions of District 9 will slow down the sales of theater tickets remains to be seen.

In the comment section of the torrents some people say they’re not going to download the movie before they’ve seen it on the big screen, while others who’ve already seen it in theater justify the download because they can’t wait for the DVD to come out. We’re pretty sure though that the execs at the movie studio won’t be as excited about the movie’s online availability as some of the downloaders are.

In it he is chased by drug dealer Mr. Big and saves three children. Videos included in the movie are “Smooth Criminal” and “Come Together”.

This shit is timeless. Me and Catalina rented all the Disney films last week and we’ve been singing Bear Necessities ever since, me singing the part of Balue, and her being Mowgli… naturally. I try to avoid Disney sequels, especially those with a thirty year gap, I’m afraid its gonna muck up all that I know to be the good book. I’ve not seen the live action versions of this film, but I might be down for it and will let you know how that goes. Did you know that Sterling Holloway, the voice of Kaa the snake, is also Winnie The Pooh? What a swell guy. This was a draft from last month, I had more to say then, but here’s what this film will boil down to. Puts your stomach in searing knots, enables sadness, desperation and hopelessness. A reminder that only time can heal some things.

Candy is one of those films where you walk away feeling a little bit stunned by the awful reality it exposes. It is not a pretty film nor a pretty subject, but as another “drug” film, at least we can feel an empathy for the main characters,whilst the horror of heroin addiction is still depicted.

It is this balance that sets “Candy” apart from many other druggie pics.The love between Candy and Dan is very real. Affectionate, painful,hopeful and hopeless, it transcends the heroin story to the extent where we really hope everything will work out for them; though we’re taken on the ride of rapid decline so familiar with this drug.

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows. Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide. And this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart… I carry your heart, I carry it in my heart.

Plot: This story is a narration from an Australian man who falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin. The narrator changes from a smart-aleck to someone trying to find a vein to inject, while Candy changes from an actress, call girl, streetwalker, and then a madwoman. Starting in Sydney, the two eventually end up in Melbourne to go clean, but they fail. This leads them to turn to finding money and heroin, while other possessions and attachments become unimportant.

Plot: New Jack City written by Thomas Lee Wright, is a story focused on real-life Detroit gang about the Chambers brothers. A crime lord ascends to power and becomes megamanical while a maverick police detective vows to stop him. Even thought i haven’t seen this movie yet, it looks like blade is in it so, i would go and watch it. OH! and that dude from law and order…the one where people always get raped. ICE-T MAN! ALSO the dude that plays a donkey in Madagascar… i think hes in rush hour too, wait.. that was Chris rock. Well that pretty much sums up the cast. The director, Mario Van Peebles (who happens to look like DMC), has won 6 awards and received 10 nominations. This movie alone has received an award along with 3 nominations.

Even thought movie only won one award, it was nominated for 3 others…but DIDN’T win….so what does that tell you. So maybe go watch a movie by M. Night Shyamalan… hes got a really cool name. Shyamalan is a proud director nominated for 2 Oscars with another 9 wins & 19 nominations its pretty crazy…but he has nothing to do with this movie, so moving on.

Hellboy, though not Pan’s Labyrinth, is still a film directed by Guillermo Del Toro that should be witnessed by anyone who’s a fan of sci-fi. His remarkable ability to sew real-world history into comic fantasy will have to believing that Rasputan was actually a sorcerer attempting to open the chaos realm. At least I was almost certain of that fact while me and Liz we’re shroomin in my “Nintendo car”. So here it is in blu-ray for you my whores.

If you’re reading my blog, you’ve most likely already seen this film… or at least some part of me would like to believe those who subscribe to my spatial banter have. It won Japanese film of the year back in 2001. I think i saw it that year or maybe 2002, regardless it’s as timeless as AKIRA, and just as fulfilling. If it doesn’t move you, you probably don’t watch cartoons, which makes you a fag, and not the cool kind. Hayao Miyazaki is a master of the trade and will go on in history as one of the greatest animators who ever lived. He is known for such classics as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke… etc.

Two of his more recent releases that I have not seen include Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (2008). I’m downloading Howl’s Moving Castle tonight cause it looks beautiful, I’ll let you know how it goes.

I plan on succeeding this post with Princess Mononoke, AKIRA, and Grave of The Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, and perhaps even Triplets of Belleville. It’ll be a goddamn asian explosion… minus Triplettes De Belleville, which is french. Think dragon roll with fries on the side.

Plot: Chihiro and her family are on their way to their new house in the suburbs when her father decides to take a shortcut along a lonely-looking dirt road. After getting out of the car and walking along a path for a while, they discover an open-air restaurant filled with food but with no workers or customers present. Mom and Dad don’t hesitate to sit down and dig in, but Chihiro senses danger and refuses. As night falls, she is terrified to see the area fill with faceless spirits, but when she runs to find her parents, she discovers that they have been turned into pigs. She is found by a mysterious boy named Haku, who promises to help her. He gets her a job working in a nearby building, which turns out to be a bathhouse for the thousands of Japan’s gods and spirits. Though the work is hard and the people strange, she does as well as she can. Her parents, however, are still waiting in the hotel’s stockyard, and Chihiro must find a way to break the spell on them before they end up as the main course of some guest’s dinner.

Here’s horror flick that’s still at the box office. This is a cam, but it looks quite watchable, probably for obvious reasons. Quarantine is a 2008 American horror film directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Jennifer Carpenter. The film is a remake of the Spanish horror film [REC]. I haven’t watched it yet but 6.5/10 on imdb is better than average so screw it i put it here.

Television reporter Angela Vidal (Carpenter) and her cameraman (Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew’s videotape.
