Mark Bittman Eat My Heart Out

Feeling a little like leftover mexican? Think it has anything to do with what you shove into you’re greasy gullet? You might just be right. Nutrition is simple, but the truth seems to be that people let the market make their dietary decisions for them. Imagine food as sex. Do you want cheap superficial mindless sex, or passionate deep substantial sex. Keep up with with the corn-fed chicken nuggets and you’re going to look like ten miles of hard road in no time. A balance diet will make you look and feel better.

Everyone is different and therefore can rely upon a contrast of nutritional need. My rule of thumb would be six to eight glasses of water a day, two parts fresh fruits or vegetables, one part whole grains, one part Eggs, fish and chicken (fresh/free range), and red meat when celebrating death. No fast food and another rule of thumb; when you’re drunk anything goes. But seriously people, take a little stock in your own health.

Mark Bittman covers food politics, the truth about meat today, and what it means to be corn fed. He also discusses how cooking seemingly became complicated over time, which in turn caused us to reply on prepared food.

The 1962 science fiction film La Jetée by Chris Marker.

Photos from Stavey Pullen’s AIDS benefit, as well as Cliff Bell’s will be up later, come back soon.

La Jetée is set in a post-nuclear war paris and focuses on a group of survivors living underground as they experiment with time travel. It was produced with minimal budget, has no dialogue, and was constructed almost entirely from black and white still photographs. It is simply one of the most stunning and important visual statements made in the last hundred years.

If you have not seen the film, you must. You can watch it below in three parts (it’s only 28 minutes long).

In 1996 mit press produced a book of images from La Jetée. That book is now out of print, but this year zone books reissued La Jetée in all its glory. The book includes all of the film’s original images along with the script in both english and french. You can buy a copy at mitpress.mit.edu.

.

[Enter 09.19.09 Gallery]

D-PAN, The Deaf Performing Artists Network, is a national nonprofit organization founded by Sean Forbes and Joel Martin. D-PAN creates music videos featuring deaf and hard-of-hearing performers. Their first video for “Where’d You Go” by Fort Mionr, featuring Sean Forbes and Rosina Switras has made a huge impact on YouTube. The 2nd video for D-PAN featured Deaf performers from all over the United States signing to John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change” which was met with praise from the deaf community.

I had an amazing time, it was a sincere pleasure to meet Joel Martin and Sean Forbes in the flesh. Howling Diablos were sweet as always. Thanks for the invite Lisa .’_’.

In addition…

In addition to the photos Christos and I shot of Analena, we also ran into a few groups of people. I didn’t get photos of everyone, but I managed to grab some. I will be adding to this gallery later, but here are a couple shots I promised.

Japanese Rape Club.

I knew women’s rights in Japan were on the low end of the stick, but I did not know their most scholarly schools had established “rape clubs”. Shit is out of control.
