My friend Jeff is actually picking up David Blane from the airport right now so that’s a given guest appearance. He’s doing a practice run for some trick on his tour.

Violinist Itzhak Perlman, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, clarinetist Anthony McGill, pianist Gabriela Montero — offered the premiere of Air and Simple Gifts, composed for the occasion by John Williams (some of you know him better as the composer of the Jurassic Park or Jaws themes). A solid studio recording of the track has yet to be leaked, in the meantime you can listen to this low-fi rip that i scoured the web for. Almost sounds unnaturally flawless, and I know a version had been recorded weeks earlier in preparation… see if you can spot the sync.

This was a draft from last month, I had more to say then, but here’s what this film will boil down to. Puts your stomach in searing knots, enables sadness, desperation and hopelessness. A reminder that only time can heal some things.

Candy is one of those films where you walk away feeling a little bit stunned by the awful reality it exposes. It is not a pretty film nor a pretty subject, but as another “drug” film, at least we can feel an empathy for the main characters,whilst the horror of heroin addiction is still depicted.

It is this balance that sets “Candy” apart from many other druggie pics.The love between Candy and Dan is very real. Affectionate, painful,hopeful and hopeless, it transcends the heroin story to the extent where we really hope everything will work out for them; though we’re taken on the ride of rapid decline so familiar with this drug.

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows. Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide. And this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart… I carry your heart, I carry it in my heart.

Plot: This story is a narration from an Australian man who falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin. The narrator changes from a smart-aleck to someone trying to find a vein to inject, while Candy changes from an actress, call girl, streetwalker, and then a madwoman. Starting in Sydney, the two eventually end up in Melbourne to go clean, but they fail. This leads them to turn to finding money and heroin, while other possessions and attachments become unimportant.

The designers party at the bankle last night went very well, though we arrived 20 minutes before it ended. Automotive designers, are attractive, like musicians, though much sexier than musicians, but not as sexy as fashion designers. Free cocktails, free pizza. I got my fill and met some interesting folk, special thanks to Virgina, Sarah, Rich, all the guys at WolksVagon c( ; I may have been robbed one day after my birthday but I have a feeling things are going to be alright. I hope whoever robbed me of my art form/palette/journal/contacts/memories/job/sanity sold it to feed their starving children or something. this sucks.

We’re using friend’s machines for now, photos from last night should be up soon both here and at detroitexposure.com.

It’s been a rough last couple weeks. Everything seems to be getting better and worse at the exact same time. We have an “almost” completed site up for detroitexposure.com, with some wrinkles to iron out, but soon, it’ll be running smoothly. We’ve also received our new cards..maybe you got one?! They turned out rather well. Be sure to check the dark side under the light, and you’ll find our little “hologramish” thing.

So those are the good things thus far. Now, here is the part where we beg for your patience and understanding,

This weekend was a very poor weekend for us. Josh’s camera is having a sensor malfunction, resulting in a complete pixel line of data missing from all the images. Yes, it’s a rather simple fix the images on the computer, but imagine having to do that for… hundreds of photographs. Unfortunately our schedule is heavy for the next few weeks, therefore, he can’t send it out for repair for a while. Needless to say, that will add some delay in turn over time on our photographs until things let up, and he can be without his camera for a couple weeks.

Just last night, Christos had his automobile broken into and has laptop stolen from the back. Having the newest/fastest laptop out of the 3 of us, we used his computer to process and database nearly every photo for detroitexposure, detroitarist and even some GrimIndustries stuff. We are mildly intelligent people, and store our files externally, but nonetheless, the laptop was the workhorse for this entire operation. So this also will be slowing us down for a while. If you see ANYONE running around with a macbook pro, with a bug sticker in the apple, that isn’t one of us, please, try and gather some information on that person, but don’t be a hero. We don’t want anyone hurt over this. We will be taking donations to get Christos a new laptop, so IF you enjoy our work and you like what we do, please help us out, even a dollar would help tremendously. Just stay tuned in for a paypal address.
