New 3G iPhone

The 3G iPhone will be announced June 9, the likely date of Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ keynote at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference, analysts said in research notes on Thursday. The 3G iPhone will be the “first of an impressive wave of new products” from Apple, wrote Citi analysts Richard Gardner and Yeechang Lee. They also expect an updated Mac laptop and iPod lines. The Apple conference is scheduled for June 9-13 in San Francisco. In addition to a 3G iPhone release in early June, the 2.5G model could have a “minor casing change” and a price drop to between US$299 and $349, compared to the current $399, wrote Shaw Wu, an analyst with American Technology Research, in a research report.

Those predictions are consistent with a February prediction Gardner made that 3G iPhones will be announced by midyear. The 3G iPhone release will help Apple meet its target of shipping 10 million iPhones in 2008, Gardner wrote at the time. Apple is confident it will sell 10 million iPhones this year, officials said during a conference call on Wednesday to discuss the company’s second-quarter earnings. Apple sold more iPhones than expected during the quarter and iPhone inventories were not enough to meet the strong demand.

Demonoid Back Online

demonoidA message posted on the Demonoid frontpage confirms that Deimos, the former administrator, left the Demonoid staff. The site seems to be working properly, as does the tracker, but there could be some downtime in the next few days. All the people who had an account at the time the site shut down can still sign in with the same username and password.

The resurrection of the popular BitTorrent traffic marks the end of a tough year for the site. The trouble for Demonoid started back in June last year, when the Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN started to put pressure on Demonoid and their ISP, Leaseweb. Deimos decided that the Netherlands wasn’t the safe haven it used to be and he to moved the site to Canada, which resulted in a few days of downtime.

Deimos never really told the administrators or members of the site exactly what was happening. Initially, most members assumed that there was some hardware failure, but after a few days it became clear that Demonoid was more or less forced to move. Maybe there could have been hardware failures too, who knows, but the outcome was the same – Canada here we come.

Relocating the servers to Canada initially solved the problems, but, by the end of September Deimos took Demonoid offline for the second time. Again, nobody knew what was going on until we found out that the CRIA was responsible for the downtime, which was later confirmed by Deimos. It turned out that Canada wasn’t the best choice after all.

After 5 days of downtime the site returned, now blocking all traffic from Canadian users in an attempt to calm down the CRIA. At first it looked like the storm was finally over, but on November 9th Demonoid’s users were welcomed by a disappointing message on the frontpage explaining that the CRIA was indeed responsible for the downtime.

The site never came back after November last year, up until now that is. Let’s hope it lasts this time.

UK artists, Ochre and Ed Chamberlain

Ochre

l_8b3658290f188b4f208f1c0694ad5a2e.jpg
Christopher Scott Leary aka Ochre is from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. His indie label is Benbecula, Toytronic. I discovered him through Ed Chamberlain’s music myspace. The word “ochre” originates from the Greek, meaning yellow, but is commonly used to describe the pigment of golden yellow or light yellow brown. Sometimes an artist’s sound is graceful enough to be carried by a color. In the case of Christopher Leary, I’m still deciding how I feel, he’s not as light a contender as I initially thought, with every track I hear more respect is demanded by the intricacy in a score. It’s interesting enough that I share it with you the reader and let you make the call. Be sure to visit his myspace.

from myspace.com/ochre:

Benbecula venture South over Hadrian’s Wall once more to bring one of the most wonderfully written and melodic pieces of electronica to grace these shores. Ochre aka Christopher Leary, first came to the public’s attention via his album for Toytronic in 2004 entitled A Midsummer Nice Dream. During that time and up until autumn 2005, he has offered a steady output of remix work and compilation appearances via the likes of Subvariant, Boltfish, Audiobulb, Igloo and Unschooled.

Where the Toytronic album was a ’best of’ collection of older recordings spanning a couple of years, the album Lemodie for Benbecula, is an especially commissioned body of work.

Ochre’s take on the electronic format takes the medium to its melodic limit, with an orchestral feel and precision that would challenge the best contemporary traditional composers.

Benbecula once again embraces the advance of music within a medium. Rather than pushing the noise envelope via the technology available, Ochre expertly demonstrates that the most complex of compositions can be realised in a human and organic way via technology, possibly more than anyone before him.

Edmund Robert Chamberlain of Brighton, South UK, his independent label, baselogic/combat. If it weren’t for him adding me I wouldn’t have discovered Ochre. I hope “Styge” moves you as much as it did me.

Juno.[2007].DVDRIP.XVID.[Eng]-DUQA

aXXo came up with this release of Juno by group Larceny. Reason for the nuke is: [Larceny.are.newbz]. Anyway, this version is spread on 4 CDs and the quality is great, with 2,822k video bitrate and AC3 sound. Also, this version includes scenes that were omitted from the retail version, such as a threesome involving Juno, Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner, and Michael Cera’s character being decapitated in a freak accident, moments after doing the ending song with Juno. Stay tuned for some more exciting p2p releases!

Synopsis: “Juno” stars Ellen Page as the title character, a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker (Cera). With the help of her hot best friend Leah (Thirlby), Juno finds her unborn child a “perfect” set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa (Bateman and Garner), longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the total support of her parents (Simmons and Janney) as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs.

Computer Club

computerclub.jpg

Straight outta Birmingham, Alabama, COMPUTER CLUB makes brilliant electro tracks of giant proportions (so your playlist better make a lot of room). COMPUTER CLUB is alias of one Mike Diasio, better known as Gigantor, of Atlanta-based drum’n’bass group, Evol Intent. After Evol Intent established itself as one of America’s premier drum’n’bass talents, its three members have been making departures: First Evol Intent’s A.J. rechristened himself as Treasure Fingers and y’all have been shaking it across the dancefloor since. Next Evol Intent’s Knick embarked on a “Bangfest” with a friend, Rochester’s Kill The Noise, in Ludachrist (Big Stereo will put you up on Ludachrist, if you aren’t knowing). Lastly, Evol Intent’s Gigantor breaks apart to form COMPUTER CLUB.

The talent is huge, so expect good things from CC, first out of the gate is ‘Load Rocket’ which will be released through N.Y.’s System Recordings.

Download: COMPUTER CLUB – Load Rocket

Presumably, the B-side to ‘Load Rocket’ will be ‘Flat Response’. Sit tight for that, and for now, partake in some cover action (of giant proportions), with COMPUTER CLUB’s electro take on new wave icons New Order big hit, ‘Bizzare Love Triangle’.

Company out of KZ mich does cheap iPod repair

Is your iPod dead? A victim of a bad battery? Or showing that telltale “sad Mac” icon? Or some other mystery ailment that prevents you from accessing your music on the go?

Don’t trash it. Kalamazoo-based Rapid Repair may be able to save it. If not, they can at least keep it out of a landfill, and maybe even put some change in your pocket for the spare parts.

Considering the cost of a new one, what have you got to lose?

The brainchild of discussions in online forums, Rapid Repair started out as iPodMods in 2003. Back then, service manager Aaron Vronko says, the small shop focused primarily on tricking out iPods. They installed new backlights on the plain gray LCDs of the prevideo iterations of the iPods to make them glow in reds and blues and greens. They installed new cases to make the iPod cases transparent. And, naturally, they moved into battery replacement as the growing base of iPod owners discovered that Apple’s batteries eventually lost the ability to hold a charge for very long.

An online storefront followed in 2004, and, Vronko says, “we’ve been going since then.” They employ 15 people in a brick-and-mortar storefront on West Main Street in Kalamazoo.

In 2007, Vronko, 25, and partner Ben Levy, 28, changed the company’s name to Rapid Repair to reflect their growing business base: They had progressed to repairing other devices, such as the iPhone, Microsoft’s Zune, various PDAs and even game consoles — as many as 500 repairs a week — and offering parts to do-it-yourselfers.

But iPods remain a core of the business, Vronko says. They even designed their own clear replacement case, the iVue Clear, for the current generation of iPods.

Hillary’s Bosnia Lie

I received a letter from my grandparents today with a photo of barack on a phone. I had to explain it was a photoshopped image of this one. I’m not really a Barack supporter, I’m just anti-Hillary. To show how vile and sick she is, I must devote this morning to a blog post:

This is a video of strictly the news coverage on CBS

For a video of every account where Hillary uses Bosnians to her advantage [click]

Forget the YouTube version of events and the Howard Wolfson’s twist on what happened. Here is the historical rather than personal aspect, which is what you should focus on. Note the date that Sen. Clinton visited Tuzla. She went there in March 1996. By that time, the critical and tragic phase of the Bosnia war was over, as was the greater part of her husband’s fist term. What had happened in the interim? In particular, what had happened to the promise in 1992, that four years earlier, genocide in Bosnia would be opposed by a Clinton administration?

President Bill Clinton had not found it convenient to keep this promise. Let me quote from Sally Bedell Smith’s admirable book on the happy couple, For Love of Politics:

Taking the advice of Al Gore and National Security Advisor Tony Lake, Bill agreed to a proposal to bomb Serbian military positions while helping the Muslims acquire weapons to defend themselves—the fulfillment of a pledge he had made during the 1992 campaign. But instead of pushing European leaders, he directed Secretary of State Warren Christopher merely to consult with them. When they balked at the plan, Bill quickly retreated, creating a “perception of drift.” The key factor in Bill’s policy reversal was Hillary, who was said to have “deep misgivings” and viewed the situation as “a Vietnam that would compromise health-care reform.” The United States took no further action in Bosnia, and the “ethnic cleansing” by the Serbs was to continue for four more years, resulting in the deaths of more than 250,000 people.

I can personally witness to the truth of this, too. I can remember, first, one of the Clintons’ closest personal advisers—Sidney Blumenthal—referring with acid contempt to Warren Christopher as “a blend of Pontius Pilate with Ichabod Crane.” I can remember, second, a meeting with Clinton’s then-Secretary of Defense Les Aspin at the British Embassy. When I challenged him on the sellout of the Bosnians, he drew me aside and told me that he had asked the White House for permission to land his own plane at Sarajevo airport, if only as a gesture of reassurance that the United States had not forgotten its commitments. The response from the happy couple was unambiguous: He was to do no such thing, lest it distract attention from the first lady’s health care “initiative.”

It isn’t necessary for me to point out that the United States didn’t receive national health care in return for its acquiescence in the murder of tens of thousands of European civilians. But perhaps that is the least of it. If I were to be asked if Sen. Clinton has ever lost any sleep over those heaps of casualties, I have the distinct feeling that I could guess the answer. She has no tears for anyone but herself. Eventually, and over her strenuous objections, the United States and its allies did rescue our honor and did put an end to Slobodan Milosevic and his state-supported terrorism. Yet instead of preserving a polite reticence about this, or at least an appropriate reserve, Sen. Clinton now has the obscene urge to claim the raped and slaughtered people of Bosnia as if their misery and death were somehow to be credited to her account! Words begin to fail me at this point. Is there no such thing as shame? Is there no decency at last? Let the memory of the truth, and the exposure of the lie, at least make us resolve that no Clinton ever sees the inside of the White House again. Funny how Hillary’s interest in pumping up her foreign policy credentials happens to coincide exactly with her supposedly faulty memory, which is a good indicator that a politician is lying. Although I doubt anyone is surprised.
