Persepolis 2007 DVDRip XviD-VoMiT
I just downloaded this, haven’t had the time opportunity to watch yet. It’s a french animated drama/comedy with rather high ratings from critics and fans as well. The movie holds awesome 8.2 points at IMDB and 94% at RT. The release contains English subtitles and some scenes are also English so you shouldn’t have problems understanding this story.
PERSEPOLIS presents a deeply personal coming-of-age tale about finding one’s place in the world. Based on her bestselling graphic novel, Marjane Satrapi teamed up with underground comic book artist Vincent Paronnaud to co-direct this animated big screen adaptation. The result is an electrifying, heartfelt, and original portrait of a spunky girl who surmounts countless obstacles to grow into a wise young adult. Marjane (voiced by Chiara Mastroianni) is an innocent nine-year-old living in Iran, surrounded by a loving but incredibly protective mother (Catherine Deneuve) and father (Simon Abkarian).

FCC Hearing: Comcast Uses Hacker Techniques
Today is an important day for network neutrality, as the FCC’s Broadband Network management hearing has been discussing Comcast’s attempt to slow down BitTorrent traffic. One of the panelists said Comcast uses “hacker techniques” to manage their network.
When we first reported that Comcast was actively disconnecting BitTorrent seeds, we never expected that it would lead to a FCC hearing, but it did. Let’s hope it’s for the better.
The second half of today’s hearing (pdf link) started with a number of network and technological experts telling us about the Internet, its history, and its makeup. Of main contention was the line between acceptable, and unacceptable traffic management.
Wise things were said, and the panelists made some good points about the unfairness of the traffic management tools that Comcast uses. There was emphasis on the TCP reset, which means that a few seconds after you connect to someone in a BitTorrent swarm, a peer reset message (RST flag) is sent by Comcast and the upload immediately stops.
Richard Bennett (co-inventor of the twisted-pair system for ethernet, and its protocol, 1BASE5) targeted those opposed to any sort of traffic management in his opening statement saying, “if we can’t control network management, we’ll have to shut down the internet”. David Clark, of the MIT computer science lab, opened by saying that ISPs can either see enemies, or they can see partners, and suggesting that right now, they see the former. He, like almost all the panelists, called the current usage of Sandvine technology ‘troubling’, and said that the user should pick the Quality of Service (QoS) level, not an ISP.
Daniel Weitzner, Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Decentralized Information Group summed up bad traffic management with: “Maybe it’s a bit like the old adage about pornography ‘I know it when I see it’. In this case I know what Comcast is doing is in the camp of unreasonable. These are techniques that hackers would use to deny service to any application on the web, very similar in that regard. It might be interesting to hold a panel of security experts to talk about those kind of mechanisms, I’m certainly not one. But, forging data on the internet is probably outside of the realm of reasonable, and any standards body would deem it to be.”
However, one of the most succinct criticisms of Comcast’s actions came from Prof. David Reed, of MIT’s Media Lab, who suggested that any ISP that didn’t follow the standard solutions evolved over the last 30 years should not advertise themselves as an Internet provider, but instead as a company “offering selective access to portions of the net only”, a description many of Comcast’s customers will probably agree with.
The FCC questioner continued the panel discussion, and pointed out that one of the problems might be that there is no actual data on how busy the network was, something that, from his point of view, would be helpful in determining whether the TCP resets are a unreasonable form of network management or not.
One of the panelists (sorry, they all sound the same) immediately replied to this by pointing out that congestion was not important. He compared the TCP reset to a conversation between two people where a third party – who pretends to be one of the persons engaged in the conversation – says “Stop, this conversation is over”. He added: “I find it uncomfortable that someone in the middle is creating a message to you that appears to come from me, I have a lot of trouble with that.”
At the beginning of the hearing FCC chairman Kevin Martin said that they were willing to step in if needed. Let’s hope they will. Feel free to file a comment if you want to let the FCC know what you think of Comcast’s haxxor skills. A video of the hearing will be available within two days.
Stay tuned.

No commentsThe End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot
From one free human to another. Should one fear terrorism.. or a police state? We would like to restore democracy, but we’re afraid to face the state that we allowed ourselves to cook in.
Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth, has written of “End of America”, which I haven’t put a dent in yet, but will find the audio book online and post it here soon. In the meantime, I scoured the web for a .pdf of the book which i did find on isohunt, godlbless their soulless shell. This is worth the read even if it is an eye strain.
Torrent: Naomi Wolf – The End Of America
If digi-digest doesn’t suit your fancy amazon has paperbacks of the book starting at 5.50 used, and around 15 new. Do not let the price fool you, this lesson is invaluable.
Fascinating interview with renowned author Naomi Wolf, perhaps best known for her early 1990s feminist classic “The Beauty Myth”, considered by many to be one of the most important works of the 20th century.
Wolf discusses her new book “The End of America”, already on the New York Times bestseller list. The book identifies ten classic steps common to all dictatorships — including those of Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin. Alarmingly, Wolf makes the case that each of these ten steps is occurring in post 9/11 America today. The book is a call to action for young and concerned Americans and this interview intimately frames this important discussion.

The Machinist [2004] DVDRip XviD-FB – 720p HDDVD x264
A long time favorite of my own, the Machinist pulls out all the stops and make you feel the delirium of the main character. Mr. Bale’s dedication to his movie roles are unsurpassed. He has gone down from 180 pounds to 120 pounds for his part in this 2004 film, before gaining it all back and then some for his buff superhero role of Batman in Batman Begins, just a year after. Yes, the skeleton in the picture is no other than Bale himself. About the movie, it is a well received mystery thriller that has a very cool tone to it. This will be a great watch for those who respect the actor, and those who enjoy films that deliver. For your viewing pleasure, there’s a torrent link for the HDRip along with the NFO.

Synopsis: Trevor Reznik, a machinist, has lost the ability to sleep. But this is no ordinary insomnia. Trevor has not slept in a year. Fatigue has led to a shocking deterioration of his physical and mental health. Suspicious of his appearance, Trevor’s co-workers first shy away from him, then turn against him after he’s involved in a shop accident that costs a man his arm. They blame Trevor for the accident. He has become a liability to himself and others, and now they want him out. Plagued with guilt, Trevor’s shame becomes suspicion, then paranoia, when it appears his workmates are conspiring to have him fired –- or worse. First he finds cryptic notes left in his apartment. Next he’s told that a mysterious co-worker involved in the accident doesn’t exist. Are these mysteries part of a plot to drive Trevor mad? Or is it fatigue that’s robbing him of his reason? Determined to find an answer, Trevor investigates the strange occurrences that are turning his world into a sleepless nightmare. Yet the more he learns, the less he wants to know.

RIAA says your sister sells rock
I just uploaded this video today, so I wont be surprised if some powers that be take it down before too long. If so I’ll find something besides youtube. look at that fat fucker.
This is a leaked official RIAA training video produced with the National District Attorneys Association telling U.S. prosecutors why they should bust music pirates: Because it’ll lead them to “everything from handguns to large quantities of cocaine [and] marijuana,” not to mention terrorists and murderers!
The whole video is over 60 minutes long—these are just two of the more outrageous minutes with Jim Dedman, from the NDAA, interviewing Deborah Robinson and Frank Walters from the RIAA about the benefits of going SWAT on music pirates. At one point, Walters says the piracy/drug connection can be so bad that you get asked “When you buy a CD, would you like it with or without—the with is enclosing a piece of crack or whatever the case may be.”

[via Gizmodo.com]
I assume their focus is on the sale of actual discs with pirated applications/movies/music, but with this they’re encouraging law enforcement to waste man hours fucking around with civilians for the wrong reasons, while those with actual weight widdle it down to their subsidiaries. might it be possible that the riaa is mistaking “call of duty 4 w/ crack`” for pirated software accompanied by actual crack cocaine? i wouldnt put it past them. SHUT UP FAT MAN.

Joe Louis’ Sister, 92, Freezes to Death
Original Article Posted Thursday, February 21, 2008 SOUTHFIELD, Mich.
The 92-year-old sister of boxing great Joe Louis, was found frozen to death outside her apartment at an assisted-living center, authorities said. The body of Vunies High, who had Alzheimer’s disease, was found Monday outside The Heatherwood retirement complex in Southfield, a Detroit suburb, said Capt. Tom Colombo of Southfield emergency medical services.

High, who spent 25 years as a teacher and counselor for Detroit Public Schools, was last seen Sunday. When she was found, she was dressed only in pajamas and was wearing one shoe, with the other lying nearby. An autopsy shows she died of hypothermia.
An official at Swanson’s Funeral Home in Detroit confirmed that High was Louis’ sister. A message seeking comment was left Wednesday at The Heatherwood.Southfield police Lt. Nick Loussia told The Detroit News that there was no indication of any crime.Louis, who transcended racial divisions 1930s and 1940s, remains a local hero in heavily black Detroit, where he grew up. The arena where the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings play bears his name, and one of the city’s most famous landmarks — a bronze sculpture of an arm and fist — is dedicated to his memory. He died in 1981.
“This isn’t the first time this has happened, she wandered out a back door last summer and was brought back by one of the employees,” said Chris Irwin, who has lived there for about 18 months. “She liked to sit in the lobby about 10 feet from the door and seemed to always be moaning or talking about ‘going home.’ “
Damn, what a wraithlike way to go out. You search for home i guess, you get there eventually. Funeral services for High will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1000 Robert Bradby Drive in Detroit. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit. I dont think I’m busy saturday, i might attend just to witness the history.
