Haven’t heard of surface technology? Perhaps you’ve heard of Microsoft Surface, or witnessed similar technologies in the film The Island, where a Dr. Merrick’s desk is a touch sensitive display. If you haven’t seen the movie or don’t recall the scene, i’ll present a recap.
The UI was designed by Mark Coleran and features a look at what the future of touch interactive medium may hold. Mark’s extended works via imdb.com

No commentsCome late 2007 consumers will be able to experience such technologies with Microsoft’s patented coffee table at hotels, restaurants, and other public venues. So far it’s priced at around $10,000 and marketed towards retailers rather than the public for obvious reasons.
One of the highlights and greatest advantages of such technology is the ability to communicate concepts to an immediate work group with an exchange action. Hands-on manipulation among two or more people on the same digital tablet could prove to be more effective than individuals on individual machines. At the same time considering the budget, would it really save your company any time or money? The software for Surface so far seems limited to retail applications, which i’mLet’s put into perspective the needs of [us]ers with less skrilla, and more linux know how, and a work demand that goes beyond mailing photos to mom on a big ass table. Multi-Pointer X Server recently developed multi-touch support to the X server windowing system used in Linux. This enables multiple users (i’ve personally seen up to four people using this software at once) to engage one machine with mouse, keyboard and hands via touch-sensitive display. The hardware can be attained online, and the windowing system is free via the site. I’ll offer a download later.
